We will help Oklahoma recover. That’s what Americans do.
And in coming days, we must also deal appropriately with the Oklahoma representatives and senators who all voted against disaster relief for other states who have experienced disasters as well in recent months. There’s also a special place in Hell for all the other GOP politicians who keep calling for cuts in programs that both help prevent or minimize impacts of disasters, and those programs that provide relief and aid afterward.
Oklahoma Republicans all voted against aid to victims of Hurricane Sandy, while the GOP has also opposed funding for FEMA, and meteorology research that includes advanced tornado detection and alerts. Just let that sink in for a minute.
Here’s an idea: Harry Reid and House Democrats should attach provisions onto any Oklahoma aid vote, requiring House and Senate Republicans to publicly apologize and admit their implicit wrong-doing to Hurricane Sandy victims, first, before any funds be dispersed to Oklahoma.
And another provision should require all Republicans admit that government funded science would provide valuable warning and prevention for many of these disasters.
It’s time to start treating GOP bullies as you would any other bully: by punching them square in the face, with a baseball bat.
Here’s a list of those Oklahoma Republicans who voted against aid to victims of Hurricane Sandy, who at this very moment are preparing to ask for aid to help victims of this terrible tragedy in Oklahoma. No victim of any disaster in the United States of America should be treated differently than any other.
Don’t let these Republicans receive the benefits of federal government agencies, representative taxation and distribution, while they simultaneously attack those things. It’s time to call them out on their hypocrisy.
